Lukasz Karauda
Łukasz Karauda- opera singer, bas baritone.
Graduated with Distinction from the prestigious Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama.
Recipient of the scholarship from her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
Winner of the 5th Kurpiniski Polish National Voice Competition 201D;.
Winner of The Music in the Vale Young Singer of the Year (Senior Category) w 2013 r.
Polish bass-baritone Lukasz Karauda made his professional operatic début in 2014 performing the role of Flora’s Servant in Glyndebourne’s touring production of La Traviata. He subsequently sang the role of Zaretsky and covered the Title Role for Grange Park Opera’s 2015 production of Eugene Onegin. He was also a member of the chorus for Grange Park Opera’s production of Fiddler on the Roof starring Sir Bryn Terfel as Tevye, which was also performed as part of the 2015 BBC Proms series at the Royal Albert Hall.
In the 2015/16 season he covered the Title Role in Don Giovanni and Nello in Donizetti’s Pia de’ Tolomei for English Touring Opera, Escamillo in a concert performance of Carmen at the 2016 Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod with the Orchestra of Welsh National Opera, Bartley in Riders to the Sea for Wexford Festival Opera and most recently, Colline in La Bohéme for Diva Opera.
Performing highlights include singing the roles of Sciarrone and Jailer, with Sir Bryn Terfel as Scarpia, in a special semi-staged concert performance of Tosca with the Orchestra and Chorus of Welsh National Opera at the Wales Millennium Centre, Cardiff as part of Sir Bryn Terfel’s 50th birthday celebrations. Concert highlights to date include Verdi’s Requiem at Brecon Cathedral.
Lukasz began his vocal training at the Academy of Music in Lodz, Poland with Wlodzimierz Zalewski before graduating with distinction from the M.A. Opera performance course at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, Cardiff, under the tuition of Eric Roberts.
During his final year of undergraduate studies, he won the first prize in the 5th Kurpinski Polish National Voice Competition, sang the Title Role in Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi at the Lodz Theater.
His studies at RWCMD were fully funded by the Leverhulme Scholarship and Jenkins Phillips Scholarship, with generous financial support from Chris Ball. Prizes included the Lee Freeman Memorial Prize, prize-winner at the 2013 Mozart Singing Competition and a finalist in the Ian Stoutzker Prize, 2013. Whilst at RWCMD, he performed the roles of Figaro in Le nozze di Figaro, Junius in The Rape of Lucretia and Steward in Jonathan Dove’s Flight. He also sang Dancaïre, Morales and Zuniga in Carmen at the St Magnus Festival in Scotland, Tarquinius in a devised programme entitled Britten’s Women at the Bath Festival and Hel Helson in Paul Bunyan for Welsh National Youth Opera at the Wales Millennium Centre, Cardiff.
Lukasz is a recipient of a Bryn Terfel Foundation award and recently won the title of ‘Most Promising Singer’ at the 2016 London Welsh ‘Young Welsh Singer of the Year’ competition.
In April 2019 Lukasz will be performing in Billy Budd at the Polish National Opera, Warszawa. Teatr Wielki.
