The Festival
Trade, diplomatic and cultural exchanges between Poland and England date back to medieval times. Polish is now England’s second most spoken language. Shakespeare’s Globe’s upcoming festival will celebrate Poland’s particular affinity and fascination with Shakespeare’s plays. It includes a visit from the remarkable Song of the Goat Theatre Company with a rare opportunity to see their Songs of Lear, and a ‘performance with scripts’ of the first play to have been written in Polish, Jan Kochanowski’s The Dismissal of the Grecian Envoys.
The festival is presented with the support of the Adam Mickiewicz Institute, the Polish Cultural Institute, the Zbigniew Raszewski Theatre Institute, the National Academy of Dramatic Art in Warsaw, the Jagiellonian University in Kraków, the Gdansk Shakespeare Theatre, Song of the Goat Theatre, Wrocław, the Polish Book Institute and His Excellency Arkady Rzegocki, the Ambassador of the Republic of Poland, and Mrs Jolanta Rzegocka.
